The
Newport Pub Crawl
Newport nightlife brings back fond memories for us. Our last
visit saw a gang of women beat-up one of the boys. Great entertainment
it was too.
Three
years on and we return: once again the minibus dropped us off
at Cambrian Road - Newport's mini-version of St Mary's Street
Cardiff.

Yates
|
First
up is Yates - your upmarket Wetherspoons, with music. This was
the best Yates we've seen - well done-out, spacious, pleasant
atmosphere with strictly no-fighting.
Next up is Wetherspoons. We queued outside for ages but at least
you can get to the bar when you finally do get inside. Good
atmosphere too, unlike most of the Wetherspoons you'll visit
it does actually feel like a local.
From
the calm of Wetherspoons we crossed over to the Greyhound -
the self-proclaimed 'pre-party pub'. It's your typical long,
narrow, dark, smoky pub, with party tunes. Some really dodgy
looking characters in here, but nothing kicked off so can't
complain. Worth a visit just for the dead cheap drinks.

Breeze
|
Further
along you'll come to Breeze, a large pub/club with overlooking
balcony. You won't see many better looking places in Wales,
and fortunately there's not too many posey gits there.
We
spent most of the night upstairs; some of us playing pool while
others did a bit of perving over the balcony (right). Oh, and
there's some absolutely stunning barmaids there too.

NP20
|
The
next pub is NP20. Don't be put off by the crap name and new-age
exterior, it's actually a decent place. Inside you'll find a
long, modern bar with makeshift disco area for weekends. Fair
play, the atmosphere's buzzing.
We
were particularly impressed with the cheap booze. In fact, it
was so cheap that most people were drinking Novelty Champagne
Cocktails. We stuck to the Carling
at £1.50 a pint though.

Huw,
Paul, Gavin, John, Richard and Alun getting pissed in
the Lamb
|
Approaching
the end of the street we had a quiet pint in the Lamb. We seemed
to be the only one's in there under fifty, so we livened the
place up by putting Rock the Caspa on the jukebox and having
a drunken sing-along. If you like a decent pint then definately
worth a visit.
Turn
right at the end of the street
and you'll find Walkabouts. When you first arrive it seems like
an authentic pub - and a pretty decent one too. The bogs are
amazing as well - with your own personal plasma screen.

Walkabouts
|
Unfortunately,
the other section is a replica of the Cardiff Walkabouts - massive
hall with no atmosphere.
Finally,
we finished up in some Club called Zanibar. Can't remember anything
about the place but there was some decent fighting outside if
you like that sort of thing.
