Pub of the Month
Location: Llanelli

Llanelli may have just lost to Leicester but at least there are plenty of places for the locals to drown their sorrows. We checked them out on our search for pub of the month.

We were advised by our Llanelli insider (who gratefully joined us on the crawl) to start at the bottom of Station Road at the Turn style Sports Bar. The place has just been renovated so it's worth a look. Still, don't expect anything different from the countless Sports Bars up and down the UK.

Next up was the Rolling Mill. Very much you're traditional local, with pool table and video machines at the back.

From here it's on to the best-looking Wetherspoons we've ever come across. The place used to be a theatre and still retains much of its charm. Highly recommended.

Our next port of all was Barnum's theme bar. We're told it's lost much of its former popularity. Still, recommended if only to have a look at the collection of clowns and other circus memorabilia.

If it's life your after - Kavanagh's is a must. A Big and busy pub with a dance floor at the back. Definitely worth putting up with the queue to get in.

Our next stop was Le Caprice - a smart, well-furbished pub/café bar. This has to be Llanelli's most stylish drinking venue and is our pub of the week. Good food and mixed clientele, with bands on most Friday and Saturday nights. It also has a late license if you don't fancy clubbing it.

Our last venue was the Sol Bar - a lively, stylish pub/nightclub (and hotel if you need a kip). If you don't fancy a late-one it's worth popping in earlier when it's free to get in. The place is virtually empty up until 9.00pm but will be packed afterwards. All-in-all a really good club.

That was our night out in Llanelli and we went home rather impressed. The people were really friendly to us and the place has a damn sight more to offer than Stradey Park (certainly as far as pubs are concerned, anyway).

Pub Score: 9 leeks out of 10
Crawl Score: 8.5 leeks out of 10
